A while back, I grabbed a couple of Wet N Wild’s Idol Eyes Creme Eyeshadow Pencils in Pixie and Techno on sale (normally about $2 at drugstores). I had high hopes for them because cream shadows are something that some drugstore lines do very well, and WNW is so good at powder eyeshadow.
I got these pencils home and photographed them untouched. Then I swatched them – joy, they looked so pretty. Then I wore them, and that was the end of that. They creased terribly – not as bad, it must be noted, as the dreaded Nars Soft Touch pencils I refer to as “pigmented Crisco.” But they weren’t very workable at all – hard to apply smoothly, tending to bunch up and skip. I tried to brush them out or smooth them with a fingertip, and both those methods made the initial application look okay, but they creased fairly quickly all the same. I tried a couple of primers with them, but nothing seemed to make much difference. As a base they work okay at times – not great – and other times they creased anyway.
These were both a pretty big disappointment, and it’s too bad because the colors are gorgeous.
Pixie is a pale pinkish champagne with high shimmer. It looked great in the swatch, but when I put it on it was difficult to work with, and then came the creasing.
Techno is a blue lilac not-quite-duochrome metallic finish. Really stunning, but even in the swatch you can see it bunching up in places. It just wasn’t at all user friendly!
