Wet N Wild’s Tough Girl/Beauty Army limited edition collection is showing up in drugstores. I picked up all six eyeshadow trios at Walgreens for $2 each last week and have been testing them ever since. This is part 1, featuring Zero Dark Flirty, Spoiled Army Brat and I Don’t Do Camouflage.
These three trios are on par with the permanent Color Icon collection – mostly creamy and pigmented, with some shades better than others. That’s a pretty good summary of the whole Color Icon eyeshadow line, and I do recommend each of these little palettes. But I’ll go into details about each shade under the swatches.
In Zero Dark Flirty, Browbone is a pale lavender with silver shimmer. Crease is a desaturated gray blue matte with just a few grains of shimmer. Eyelid is a matte medium purple with blue undertones. Eyelid didn’t swatch all that impressively, but when I actually brushed it onto my eyelid, it was great (sometimes the top layer on an eyeshadow is stiff, but everything underneath is not). This trio performed wonderfully, and getting just the look I was after was easy as could be. The eyeliner is Riot by Urban Decay.
In Spoiled Army Brat, Browbone is a fairly unique desaturated rosy shimmer – at least I don’t have anything else like it. Crease is a matte desaturated red that leans coral. Eyelid is a pale copper shimmer. All of these shades performed awesomely, but be forwarned they are very warm – even the eyelid color was warmer than I thought from looking at it in the pan. On my light complexion, I had the same trouble with this one that I had with Shiseido’s very pink-red Boudoir palette. These should look incredibly fantastic on deeper skin tones, however! And the pigmentation and color payoff is terrific. And for those like me who can’t wear these straight up, you could still use them over or under other shades to add some warmth. At $2, it’s worth a shot!
In I Don’t Do Camouflage, Browbone is a pale sky blue metallic. Crease is a super deep navy with very fine blue and black shimmer. Eyelid is a bright Dodger blue satin finish. Each of these performed very well – the pigmentation is almost too much. The eyeliner is Ink by Urban Decay (see above link to Riot for swatches).
