TheBalm’s Foxy Pout lipstick (theBalm, $17) is described as a “bold metallic bronze”. It’s a warm brown with lots of gold shimmer, which can be worn as a neutral with pretty much anything.
This is one of the most long wearing formulas I’ve tested (I have two shades). It wears for 4-6 hours for me unless I eat during that time, and that’s pretty heroic. It’s also very comfortable – there’s no sense of dryness, but there’s also no sense of cream slipping around on your lips. It just goes on and stays there, and feels like nothing at all. There is one odd thing with this particular shade: while applying it, I can feel the glitter against my lips. It’s not uncomfortable, just odd – because once it’s on, it feels perfectly smooth. No matter how I mush my lips together and move them around, I can never again feel that glitter. I have no idea how that works! But once on, it’s as comfortable as it can possibly be.
The scent is mint vanilla with hints of something warmer, almost a cinnamon. I can feel the mint while applying, but I really can’t smell it even then, let alone while I’m wearing it.
The coverage is opaque in one pass.
The bronze in this is so warm-toned that it can take on a pinkish hue, especially if your coloring is neutral to cool. That actually makes it more wearable than a straight-up bronze, since warm pink is a natural human color. The gold sparkle is very noticeable in the arm swatch, but as you can see in the picture of it on my lips, it’s a bit more subdued. That said, it’s definitely shimmery.
This is one of my favorite lipstick formulas. I love how it’s neither drying nor too creamy, and feels like nothing on my lips. The wear time is also amazing. The shimmer makes it fun, but the richness of the color keeps it sophisticated.
