Texture and Pigmentation
These have a texture that’s a cross between oil and silicon – like the most lightweight, non-greasy oil ever. I found it incredibly comfortable and quite hydrating, and these wear like iron for me. I absolutely loved the feeling of this gloss. I’ve seen reviewers who found these drying and the wear time short, and this brings to mind the fact that some oils dry my lips out even though they work wonderfully for many people. I’m guessing this is a matter of individuals having sensitivities to various oils, so your mileage may vary from mine, too.
But the pigmentation on these is rather sheer. If you like sheer glosses, these are worth checking out, but if you prefer more pigment, then only some of the shades are going to work for you. I think it might have been wise for Tarte to include just a few full-size samples of the more pigmented ones because some of these are hard to tell apart.
Mel is a light marshmallow pink with a mild blue undertone. This is one of the more pigmented glosses in the collection, even managing to lighten the color of my darker pigmented lips a little bit.
Nuria is a deep rose with a mild blue undertone, just enough to make your teeth look whiter. It’s another of the more pigmented ones.
Ali is a deep pink with silver shimmer, but the shimmer doesn’t really translate onto the lips and the pigmentation is rather sheer.
Anna is a medium warm pink that’s just a shade or two lighter than Ali.
Heath is a medium reddish brown with gold shimmer. The pigmentation is stronger in this one, so the color payoff is good.
Casey is a light peachy-tan. The pigmentation was too sheer to cover my pink lip color, so it ended up a sort of pale peachy pink on me.
Jena is a pinkish coral, but like Casey it lost the battle with my lip pigmentation and became more of a straight-up rose.
Mer is a light pink with gold shimmer. The sheerness of the pigmentation caused it to mix with the pink in my lips and turn a little bit closer to red.
Despite the sheerness of some of these, and the fact that I can’t really tell some of them apart so it doesn’t matter which one I grab, I like the texture and wear of these enough that I’m glad to have them – especially since they came in a kit that was such a great overall value.
