This was my first experience with a Sunday Riley blush ($30 for 0.1 oz, Sephora). The shade is called Intimate, and it’s a peachy-pink with fine gold and silver shimmer that’s surprisingly subtle on the skin. It comes in a small compact with a mirror.
This is a very finely milled blush, and one of the most intensely pigmented I’ve ever used. But blending is effortless – I just have to be careful to apply it very, very lightly and sometimes even then go over it with a blending brush. Intimate is a medium shade, and the pigmentation means it should show up nicely on deeper skin tones. It might be a little too much for the some fair complexions (I’m Mac NC-25). It didn’t look as vibrant as it really is in Sephora’s swatches – or even in the compact. I’ve had deeper blushes go on with less color because their pigment just wasn’t the same. So be forewarned that this line is so strongly pigmented, you might want to pick a lighter shade than usual (just to make life easy).
Personally, it’s worth it to me to take a little more care with application on this one because it’s my perfect “sun-kissed” color – that burnished peachy red I used to turn just after sunning, before it turned golden.
Not surprisingly, this one wears all day for me. I’ve never had it fade noticeably before I’m ready to wash my face in the evening. It’s powerful, powerful stuff.
Intimate is a peachy pink, but you can see that it leans toward a coral red if you pack it on. Reddish blushes aren’t always great on me because I have red cheeks, but Intimate actually covers my red, replacing it with its own shade. As you can see from the swatches, very little of the shimmer translates onto the skin. As lightly as I apply it, I can’t see a single bit of shimmer on my face – in fact, I’d have thought it was matte just from looking at my face.
So if you’re buying this for the shimmer, you might be in for a disappointment, but if you like matte blushes, don’t reject this one outright. If you have deeper skin and will be applying more heavily, the shimmer may show up more.
This is not your mother’s blush. Intimate is an intensely pigmented blush, and you may have to take some care to apply it very lightly with a fluffy brush, and maybe go over it gently with a blending brush. It can absolutely build to the color in the pan, or go on much more softly. At first, it intimidated me but I’m glad I stuck with it because this is a quality product. I definitely plan on checking out others in this line.
