Shiseido’s Venetian Rose (RS711) Perfect Rouge Lipstick is described as a “rosy mauve”, and that’s exactly right. I was looking for a mauve that didn’t have too much blue for my warm undertones, and this was the color.
This lipstick totally surpassed my expectations. I knew from past experience that Shiseido’s Perfect Rouge line tended to have stunningly beautiful finishes, but not always the greatest wear time. In fact, I once had a shade (no longer made) that had to be reapplied about every two hours, but it was so gorgeous I used up the whole tube anyway.
Venetian Rose definitely had the beautiful finish and a bonus: it wears very well! Longer than my average lipstick time. And it wears comfortably – not dry, not much slip, just a lightweight feeling of nothing on the lips. It’s intensely opaque – one sweep is all you need. The finish is cream, and it has some shine. I don’t know quite how to describe the finish. There’s a luminosity to this one, and the other Perfect Rouges I’ve tried, that nothing else I’ve ever used quite has.
The color is definitely on the cool side since it does have some blue. I have mild warm undertones and this one looks good on me. It should look great on neutral and cool complexions. Warmer skin tones may be hit or miss – it’s opaque enough to cover your natural lip color, but could look ashy on some. I think it actually will work on a surprising number of people, though.
See what I mean about the finish? Venetian Rose is just so creamy, and a little shiny, and there’s almost something shimmery but it’s more just luminous. And it’s so flattering!
