One of the most exciting things I’ve seen in drugstores in a while is Revlon’s line of Just Kissable Balm Stains. I’ve bought several. This shade is Adore ($8.99 at Drugstore.com), and it’s a dark brick red.
They’re in a chubby stick form, like Clinique’s Chubby Sticks or Tarte’s Lip Surgence, but they’re not just knock-offs of those. These are a combination stain with balm – in one step. They feel just like lipstick going on, but they stain your lips and put a balmy – slightly shiny – finish over the stain. When the balm finish wears off, you’re left with a semi-matte stain.
Adore is a deep brick red of the sort that actually looks better on many skin tones than a brighter red. The undertones here are warm, but not at all orange. When the shine wears down, the stain is a soft semi-matte deep red that’s surprisingly wearable.
The wear time on these is… well, the balm does wear down after 2-3 hours (which really isn’t bad for a balm, at least on my lips), but the stain stays on much longer. So if you care about the shiny finish, you can touch it up at that point with either more of the same or another lip balm. And I do mean touch up – you won’t need a full re-application. The stain can be mostly wiped off with a tissue, and it will remove easily with makeup remover.
There’s something soft about this color, even though it’s dark. I have equally dark reds that are difficult to wear, requiring liner and other tricks to make them look right against my skin. This one just works – I just swipe it on, and I’m done. Plus, one pass is opaque – I always do two because I like to go both directions and make sure I’ve covered everything.
I love everything about this lipstick – the rest of the line is also great, but some shades are better than others and this is one of the big winners. It’s so comfortable and lightweight, and it performs like nobody’s business.
