L’Oreal recently released a new line of 16 lipsticks called Colour Riche Colour Caresse ($9.99 at Drugstore.com, Ulta). From Ulta’s website: “Colour Caresse by Color Riche is formulated with L’Oreal’s revolutionary Lightfeel System to deliver a feather-light finish without being sticky or heavy.” I have four shades to review, and I’m going to review them separately because there are noticeable differences from shade to shade (and a lot of photos). This first shade, Fiery Veil, is a bright red-orange.
I do find these Caresse lipsticks feel weightless and comfortable without being sticky, as the marketing information promises. Fiery Veil is a top performer in this line – it wears a couple of hours before the shine begins to fade, but after that it’s still a satiny finish that lasts for a couple more hours. These lipsticks strike me as slightly translucent but heavily pigmented – maybe that’s the “Lightfeel system” they’re talking about. There’s a tiny bit of sheerness compared to other lipsticks, but so much pigment gets onto your lips that your natural lip pigment still gets covered.
I don’t find this shade drying at all – in fact, it’s a tiny bit hydrating.
The color and finish
As I mentioned, this is a bright, fiery red-orange with lots of shine and some very tiny reflective particles with a gold sheen – but not enough to call it a shimmer finish. What you notice is the shine.
It’s more wearable than you might expect, because of the shine and the very slight translucence. It’s ideal for warmer skin tones, but many cool skin tones will also look great with it. Be aware that because it’s an orange, it can make teeth look more yellow (blue-based reds make teeth look whiter).
In the tube, this looks very bright, but on the lips it just seems to blend. It’s still bold and bright, but it doesn’t make my lips look like a flashing neon sign in the middle of my face. I can even wear this shade with dramatic eyes without looking tacky.
There’s a softness to this shade so that even though it’s bright and bold, it just seems to belong on the lips. I’m fairly pale, and this is a fairly deep color for me. With many similar shades, my lips can begin to look surreal, and I need to line them or do something to tone them with my skin. Not so with this shade.
This shade wears comfortably and beautifully for a good amount of time. It’s a very wearable red-orange, possibly because of the very slight translucence in the finish. I’ve really enjoyed this shade!
