Laura Geller’s Light Beams lip gloss ($17 at Macy’s, Nordstrom’s or Ulta) is supposed to be comfortable and lightweight while delivering high shine and keeping lips in optimal condition. Fairy Beams is a light rosy pink with a lot of pale shimmer. It’s a translucent formula, not meant to pack a lot of color.
This isn’t the kind of lip product I gravitate toward – I usually want more color than shine. But it’s nice to have a shiny gloss in a neutral color that looks fabulous with any outfit, any foundation, any eye makeup look you might be doing. Or without any other makeup on your face! That’s what I was expecting from Fairy Dust. I didn’t really pay attention to the claims that it was lightweight and would nourish my lips.
But it did those things – and it wears really well, too. I was surprised at both how long it wears and how good it felt on my lips. Now, I can’t say for sure that it improved the condition of my lips since they weren’t in bad shape to start with. But it feels like a really nice shea or coconut butter balm, which is my ideal for how a lip product ought to feel.
Of the glosses I own, this is most similar in looks to the Urban Decay Lip Junkies. The Lip Junkies are heavier and more sticky and do nothing for my lips. In terms of how this one feels and wears, it reminds me of the Bobbie Brown High Shimmers I’ve reviewed.
Because this has a fruit and plant oil base rather than the mineral oil base the Lip Junkies have, I never expected it to wear longer than they do – but it does!
In terms of wear time and comfort, this was comparable to the I’ve reviewed – maybe even a little better. Of course those are a more pigmented and more shimmery formula with a slightly different look, but I think it’s fair to compare them on how long and how comfortably they wear.
This is a really exceptional formula that I feel very good recommending.
Love that shimmer! It adds very little color to the lips, but it still brings all the focus to them!
And here’s the applicator – the gloss squeezes up through the middle of it.
