Laura Geller’s Light Beams lip gloss ($17 at Macy’s, Nordstrom’s or Ulta) is supposed to be comfortable and lightweight while delivering high shine and keeping lips in optimal condition. Fairy Beams is a light rosy pink with a lot of pale shimmer. It’s a translucent formula, not meant to pack a lot of color.
Buxom Buxom Big & Healthy Lip Cream in White Russian (0.14 oz, $19 at Sephora) is a translucent cream finish lip gloss in a light pink nude shade. It’s not ghostly pale, and it’s got some warmth, but on its own it could look ghostly on some skin tones. Like Dolly, a Buxom Lip Polish I reviewed, White Russian was long-wearing. Unfortunately, I had some issues with this one.
Buxom Big & Healthy Lip Polish in Dolly is a warm, plummy rose with very fine gold shimmer. The Buxom line of lip products is supposed to plump lips, and it does a little, the same way your lips are a little fuller when they’re more hydrated. It’s not unnatural looking – in fact, I don’t want my lips plumped at all, thank you very much, but the effect with these is subtle enough that I’ll still wear them.
Buxom’s says their “Big & Healthy Lipsticks” have a creamy-velvet texture, define your lips like a liner and plump lips “to their full buxom potential.” I recently got this sample of the shade Brooklyn from a Sephora points bonus – it’s half-size (full size is .03 ounces) and in different packaging, but it’s the same lipstick available in the permanent collection. Brooklyn is described as “harvest fig” – it’s a plummy color that’s halfway between a brown and a neutral pink, making it a great slightly deep neutral.
Bobbi Brown Plum Gold High Shimmer Lipgloss ($23 @ Sephora) is a rich brown-purple with gold and reddish micro-glitter. The overall effect is a deep golden plum that could be vampy but doesn’t have to be. This is a deep color that’s ideal for fall.
