Bobbi Brown Plum Gold High Shimmer Lipgloss ($23 @ Sephora) is a rich brown-purple with gold and reddish micro-glitter. The overall effect is a deep golden plum that could be vampy but doesn’t have to be. This is a deep color that’s ideal for fall.
As with the others I’ve reviewed from this line, Hot and Citrus, you don’t feel the sparkle during application or wear, which is surprising because even though it’s very fine, there’s a lot of it! If you apply a good bit of this, you’ll get the color you see in the tube. You can also sheer it out or wear it over something else. The wear time is excellent. It applies smoothly and evenly, and it’s rather opaque for a gloss (but it’s still definitely a gloss). The shimmer is pretty noticeable, but it’s so fine that it can still look sophisticated. Still, if lots of shimmer isn’t your thing, this probably isn’t your lip gloss.
It comes with a velour doe foot applicator that reaches far into the tube, pulls out a nice amount of evenly distributed gloss and applies it easily to your lips whether you want the full color or a sheered out effect.
I applied it more thickly in the arm swatch, where it takes on more of a reddish tone. On the lips, I applied it a little more thinly (but not sheerly) and it also picks up some of the pink from my lips, making it more plummy. The gold sparkles are very noticeable this close up, but from a more normal viewing distance – even a close up – the effect is a little more subtle.
This is a high-performing gloss, and you get a competitive amount of product for your money (both Smashbox and Too Faced charge more per ounce on their glosses).
