Benefit Sugarbomb face powder-in-a-box ($28, Ulta, Sephora) can be used as a blush, a highlight, a face powder or even an eyeshadow – anyway you like it. The powder is pressed into a small box with a small mirror on the inside of the lid, and it comes with a small brush that is actually my preferred method for applying it.
Sugarbomb has four triangles of color which you sweep together to form a light peachy-pink with a lot of golden sheen to it. There are no individual sparkly or glittery bits in this one. On your face, it just has this golden glow that’s noticeable, but not loud. It’s less glowy than Nars Albatross, for example (and it’s peachier, too – Albatross is more just pure yellow/golden).
Like the caption says, the first swatch here on the left here is heavy, so you can see all the nuances clearly, and the right swatch is diffused like you might actually wear it on your face. I should point out that the right swatch is still slightly heavy – you can apply it lighter than this, but it would be so subtle as to barely show on camera.
I actually like wearing Sugarbomb as a blush – I’m light skinned, NW25 in Mac terms, so for me Sugarbomb actually adds a tiny bit of color to my cheeks and looks like a beautiful flush. I love the golden sheen, and when I wear this I don’t wear a highlighter because it would be too much. I can also use Sugarbomb as a highlighter, and anyone medium skinned or darker would probably find it more useful as a highlighter than a blush. As a face powder, I apply it very lightly – much more lightly than in the right hand swatch – and it just gives you a subtle but noticeable glow.
It’s very finely milled. It doesn’t highlight pores, lines or imperfections – in fact, the way it diffuses light actually disguises some hyperpigmentation on my cheeks. It wears all day easily for me, and I am someone who usually needs to touch up my blush after a few hours.
I applied it a tiny bit heavy for the camera here. The way I normally wear it is just a bit more subtle, but this lets you see the sheen and the color I’m talking about. This has become a standby blush for me – I just keep coming back to it. That’s partly because I love the color and finish, but also because it’s just so easy to apply. The brush Benefit includes works perfectly for me, so for travel I don’t even need to bring a blush brush.
