Bare Minerals Ready Shadow duos in Scenic Route ($20 at Sephora) is a greenish duo featuring Breathtaking (off white shimmer with a strong golden sheen) and Spectacular (metallic olive).
Packaging and Formula
The package is solid and compact, with a little mirror and a spongetip applicator which will do the trick. The formula is as good it was in Epiphany. The colors are creamy and glide on easily, blending as much or as little as you want. The pigmentation is excellent and the colors wear very well even without primer. The color payoff is terrific, especially with Spectacular – some olive greens aren’t quite true when worn, but this one is.
I was unable to get a photograph that showed the lighter color, Breathtaking, as it truly looks – it’s a very unusual color, and between my mediocre photography skills and its whiteness confusing my camera settings, I just didn’t quite pull it off. But it looks much whiter in the pan than it looks on skin, so please check out the swatches, which are representative.
Breathtaking is nearly white, but with a definite golden shimmer that very much matches the golden shimmer in Spectacular. On skin, the whiteness becomes more subtle and the golden sheen more pronounced, so it’s more of a very light golden butter yellow. I’ve never seen another shadow color quite like this one. Spectacular is a metallic olive green mid-tone with plenty of gold in the finish. I don’t own any dupes or near-dupes for this one, but there are a few similar olive greens out and about.
Breathtaking in the inner corner and first half of the lid, Spectacular on the outer half and in the crease, and as liner under the lower lash line. (On the waterline: Stila’s Moray, which is a near perfect match to Spectacular.)
This is a highly shimmery duo, with a pale shade and a mid-tone. They pair wonderfully, or you might want them just to add some olive green to your collection. The quality on these is excellent, so you really can’t go wrong there.
